about

The duality of Pook Hustle’s human experience creates relatability as we all have the same questions about life. Who am I? Why am I here? Am I doing the right thing? Pook hopes to answer all these questions through his musical journey, taking the listener along as a passenger through his experience.

Though uncanny, the dynamic yet moody record (produced by Tarzan 10,000, WhatsHisName & Pook Hustle himself) is an eclectic, piano filled mix oozing with angst & anticipation.

Pook uses the title “Trust Issues” to explore the concept of friendly fire as it relates to betrayal.

Discussing his anticipated release Pook Hustle says:

“Growing up I was taught to treat people how I want to be treated but reality is, not everyone is going to treat you how you treat yourself. I’ve felt betrayed by many people I love and the way I deal with my feelings is by creating, otherwise I would end up destroying them or myself.”

Pook continues on: “Another layer is betrayal of self. Hard times can make us forget who we are & when you lose trust in yourself, you end up making decisions based on fear. When I recorded this track I was very much in that space but I pushed through with the support of Mark Boucher Jr. & my engineer Dan (mixbydb) Ballas. The video directed by Daytona Starsky & myself (coming late October) is a visual display of the internal battle between my inner child “Pook” & the character that he’s had to adapt to survive in the “real world” “Hustleman.”

lyrics

I’ve been trying to relax
Got a lot up on my mind
And I know I gotta heal
But it’s gonna take some time
I never knew you’d do me wrong
It really caught me by surprise
It hurt most when they close
Do the work from inside (Squad high)

Steve Ballmer
Swear it’s clipped like Steve Ballmer
Now-a-days it’s too hard to find a real friend
They too phony like three chargers
I ain’t here to make a peace offer
Rather chuck the deuces as I departure
Took advantage made me think smarter
Now I keep my distance they gone need archers, hm
People been feeling a way
Still got some problems they never explain
Fake connections, ain’t feeling that energy
This year I’m breaking the chain
It’s not an even exchange
The craziest feeling the feeling of feeling insane
Kept reaching out first, that got my energy drained

Smoking all this dank
I can’t feel my fucking brain
I don’t give a fuck bout you
Nigga you look like a stain
You just mad because I’m lit
People feeling like I changed
But I gotta level up, yeah
I could never stay the same
Smoking all this dank
I can’t feel my fucking brain
I don’t give a fuck bout you
Nigga you look like a stain
You just mad because I’m lit
People feeling like I changed
But I gotta level up, yeah
Never stay the same

Evolving
Spend time in my own garden
Thank God for the new friends
Cause the old ones they just dissolving (New friends)
Never answer but I keep calling
Keep calling, yeah I keep calling
What’s the point of having long arms
Hands out still can’t reach all them
Oh you think I got a lot of friends?
Kick that Jazz like Donavan
They only here for a short ride
Fuck I look like a dollar van
Hm, yeah locking in
In the stu I’m just locking in
Leave it all on this microphone
Til my music be in high demand, lets get it

I’ve been trying to relax
Got a lot up on my mind
And I know I gotta heal
But it’s gonna take some time
I never knew you’d do me wrong
It really caught me by surprise
It hurt most when they close
Do the work from inside
Aye do the work from inside
Aye do the work from inside
Aye do the work from inside
Aye do the work from inside
Now do the work from inside
Do the work from inside
Now do the work from inside
Now do the work from inside
